DIY Project #3 – Elaborately Embellished Dress Pants
What you’ll need:
– pants
– material that matches in colour to the pant
– 3 types of ribbon
– thread & needle
These embellishments are sewn mostly the same as DIY project #2, with a few minor adjustments.
(Sorry this photo is blurry!)
Step #1: Cut the ribbons and trim two-to-three inches longer than length of pant leg. If the ribbon you’re using is prone to fraying and unravelling, use the flame from a lighter or a match to carefully melt the raw ends of the ribbon.
Step #2: Cut two strips of the material to the same length of the ribbons and trim, and the same width as the trim put together plus one inch.
Step #3: Stitch the ribbon to the strips. If you are using cord like in the photo, sew this one first then layer the others on afterwards.
Step #4: Pin the strip to the pants as straight as possible along the side seam. Turn the extra inch-long ends of the ribbon under the bottom hem of the pant and at the waist line allowing some leeway for a belt loop.
Step #5: Stitch the strip to the pant from under the belt line to the bottom hem as close to the edges of the strip as possible to give a clean finish. Hand-stitch the top of the strip to the inside of the waistline leaving space for a belt to fit through.
