I’ve got the blues!

Don’t worry – it’s not what you think…

After seeing that the latest Chanel haute couture show was ‘all about the blues’, I decided to hop on this trend too!

My tools: Sally Hansen XtremeWear in Gunmetal, MAC Unconditionally Fabulous in Frost, O.P.I. Top Coat, O.P.I. Drip Dry.

Starting with clean, shaped nails, I put two coats of Gunmetal.

Once dry, add on layer of Frost.

To smooth out the glitter yet give a 3-D look, add one layer of Top Coat:

Finish it off with a couple of drops of Drip Dry, and relax until it’s completely dry!

January 2012 Glymm Box Review

Golden Globes Makeup – no need to break the bank!

I have to say, I’m a cosmetics product hog…but I’m always super impressed when I hear that big stars and celebrity makeup artists are using products that can be easily bought at the closest Shoppers Drug Mart.

When researching Emma Stone’s smokin’ hot Golden Globes makeup, I discovered that Rachel Goodwin, makeup artist to the stars, chose beautiful gunmetal and pewter shades from Revlon ColorStay 16H eyeshadow quad in ‘Precocious’ as well as Revlon ColorBurst lip butter in ‘Lollipop’. She combined these affordable products along with her stellar skill and created this red-carpet-worthy look for Stone.

And, while she’s received some flack over the hair look, Zooey Deschanel’s makeup for the Globes was gorgeous and fresh, and I really appreciate that her makeup artist, Jorjee Douglass, used mainly Rimmel London products. I’m also a huge fan of that brand! Douglass created a perfect cat-eye with Rimmel London’s Glam Eyes professional liquid liner and smoked it up a bit with Rimmel London Glam Eyes HD quad eyeshadow in ‘Black Cab’ and ‘English Rose’. To keep the focus on the eyes, Douglass chose a neutral lip colour: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Intense Wear lipstick in ‘Nude Pink’.

This all goes to show you that you don’t have to go off-Island or break the bank on your cosmetics in order to get a red carpet look!

I always say that beautiful makeup is much more about what tools and skills you use, not about your product. So, my advice? Invest in great brushes and practise, practise, practise! And, of course…have fun!

What’s in your products?

Make 2012 a healthier year by researching and making giving the boot to some skin care and cosmetics products that might not be so good for you.

Use the Cosmetics Database as a tool for research on what is in your products. While some of your favourites may be too pretty to get rid of, you can create an educated balance by substituting some other things. For instance: I have pretty bad eye allergies, and when I discovered a few years ago that my MAC FiberRich mascara (old product) was a 9 out of 10 for toxicity, I quickly changed over to an Ecco Bella water-based mascara which now leaves me irritation free!

The database is not there to scare you away from your favourite products, so please don’t let it! Find a balance by sticking with your stand-by product then using a more natural version of another product. Knowledge really is the best path to a healthier future!

Happy New Year!

Ok so as I posted before, here’s my inspiration for tonight’s makeup look:

Here’s my before…bare faced. (Yikes!)

First, apply primer, foundation, and concealer:

Then fill in and brush out brows, add a soft red-tone blush, add eye shadow primer on the apples of the eyes, use loose pigment powder in gold on the apples of the eye then pearl as a highlighter. Then add mascara!

Add a black liquid liner along the top lashes, black powder liner along the outer edge of the bottom lashes. Line and fill in lips with burgundy pencil. Apply burgundy stain then clear gloss.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! SEE YOU IN 2012!!!

MakeupProPEI – New Year’s Eve Makeup

Glitz and glamour are the best words to describe the look that we all aim for on New Year’s Eve. We want to ring in a shiny new year with sparkly dresses, gleaming hair, and dazzling makeup!

One of my top makeup looks for this New Year’s Eve is the vampy femme fatale as modelled here so perfectly by actress Michelle Trachtenberg.

To give your burgundy lip lasting power, use a lip pencil all over the lip underneath the lip colour to keep your eye and get the maximum amount of glamour by keeping eye makeup really simple and classic like a black, liquid liner on the upper lashes with a softer, smokier line on the outer half of your bottom lashes. To add more light, pair it with a yellow gold or champagne shadow. The finishing touches – slightly rosey cheeks and a set of perfectly groomed and shaped brows to frame it all into one beautiful picture!

Now that’s starting the new year right!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
